Following previous successful airport lounge projects, Inside Out were appointed to complete the 6th No.1 Traveller Lounge at Birmingham International Airport.

The 420sqm lounge incorporates many subtle changes from previous lounges, whilst retaining the overall concept of orchestrating spaces for different types of traveller. Careful use of finishes and lighting defines areas which strike a delicate balance between seclusion and openness, with consideration given to users as individuals and in larger groups. The entrance corridor features a planted rosemary wall, providing a transition for passengers arriving from the main terminal concourse. Further in, the double-height central space is used to create a striking mezzanine area with bespoke joinery and staircase. A large window maximises internal light and frames great views of the runway.

As with previous projects, Inside Out designed the joinery throughout including a curving reception desk, bar and banquette seating, as well as the custom staircase which rises from a banquette plinth up to the mezzanine space.
