Leading the Design Team
The term architect is derived from the greek term "arkhitekton", meaning chief builder. For centuries, architects have occupied a unique role in the building process, similar to that of directors in the movie industry, employing their vision for a final product to guide the process.
The demands of a commercial world and increased specialisation have undoubtedly and understandably changed that traditional role. At Inside Out we believe that the architect remains the best placed of all consultants to drive a project forward, understanding how all of its various components come together. Having a dedicated design professional coordinating the project from conception to completion is still the best way to arrive at a harmonious end product.
Inside Out is typically appointed as lead designer and lead consultant, a role that involves us directing other consultants, arranging meetings, drafting design stage programs, advising the client and seeking client instructions, arranging change control procedures and assessing tenders.
While directing the project's design, IOA works closely with a number of consultants, appointed as required by each project, to draw on their specialist knowledge and incorporate as best suits the project. Understanding the highly technical nature of certain building components, IOA also employs certain building contracts that allow the architect and contractor to design those aspects together, resulting in a viable and cost-effective solution. Our pragmatic approach has meant that we have established lasting working relationships with various contractors and consultants.
In addition to this traditional approach, Inside Out has broad experience working as a lead designer and design consultant, depending on a client's needs.
